SECOND HALF 17TH CENTURY

From a series of the Months depicting November/December, set in a wooded landscape with a mounted nobleman and gentlewoman accompanied by two attendants preparing for the hunt with a village scene in the distance within a continuous scrolling floral border decorated with hounds, parrots perched amidst musical trophies and doves alight a crest, the lower selvedge with Brussels townmark and the intials I.F.V.D.H for Ian Frans Van den Hecke-11ft. x 12ft. 5in. (3m. 35cm. x 3m. 78cm.)

A tapestry from this workshop depicting September/October with an identical border is illustrated in H. Göbel, Tapestries of the Lowlands, 1924, fig. 508, as is another by Van den Hecke with closely related border depicting Spring from The Four Seasons (fig. 509).
