maker's mark of John Ray and James Montague, London, 1808

Circular with detachable cover, the cover engraved with a coat of arms and with a presentation inscription below on swagged drapery, with chased and engraved stylized acanthus leaf and stippled ground chevron border, with engine-turned sides and base, marked inside base and cover and on the flange - 2 7/8in. (7.5cm.) diam.

The inscription reads: 'Presented to the Society of EAST INDIA COMMANDERS by Robt. Williams Esqr. as a testimony of his esteem and on being Elected a DIRECTOR of the EAST INDIA COMPANY April 12th. 1809.' The arms are those of the East India Company.
