AN ENAMEL SCENT-BOTTLE AND A SILVER-GILT BOTTLE
South Staffordshire, circa 1775 and German, circa 1730
The enamel bottle formed as pair Love Birds entwined and joined by a lover's knot inscribed 'Prenes Les Pour Les Models', the white birds decorated with a garland of flowers and with further flowers above and below on the grey ground, with chained stopper and gilt-metal mounts, the white-ground base painted with a gilt flowerspray, slight restoration - 3¼in. (8.3cm.) high; the other example of rectangular section, with shaped and arched shoulders, the sides engraved with scrolls and partly stippled foliage, with trefoil detachable threaded cover, apparently unmarked - 3½in.
