According to Jeffrey Brown, this work probably dates from 1867 when the artist sketched at Bolton, Recluse Island and Indian Brook in the course of a visit to Lake George. It is similar to another picture of the same period, Lake Scene with Fisherman from 1867. A copy of Jeffrey Brown's letter, dated October 1, 1981, accompanies the lot.
