Lot Essay

The Rattlesnake was originally conceived in 1905. Three years later, Remington re-worked the model completely, enlarging the piece and adjusting the positions of both the rider and his mount. In his dairy, Remington noted " . . . finished the Rattlesnake and it is a great improvement on the other. I hope no one ever sees them together." (Cast and Recast, p. 53)

According to the Roman Bronze Works ledgers, the present bronze was cast after December 31, 1918.
