Fehr studied photography at the State School of Photography in Munich in 1921. By 1933, Fehr was working in Paris, briefly with Man Ray, and later founded a school of photography called Publ-Phot. Between 1939-45, Fehr founded a second school of photography in Lausanne known as the Ecole Fehr.

Her photographs are in the collections of the Fotomuseum and the Theatermuseum, Munich; the Folkswang Museum, Essen; the Kunstmuseum, Zurich; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
