Lot Essay

Mantz graduated from the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Fotografie in 1921 and almost immediately specialized in architectural photography. In his ability to grasp the formal qualities of the new simplified style of post-war Germany, he utilized existing light conditions to imbue his work with a sense of drama and convey a bold, yet very practical visual interpretation.
