Lot Essay

The original marble of La Dame aux roses dates from 1867 (Pingeot et al, p, 100). The Louvre acquired a bronze example of this bust, with similar inscriptions to the present example, from Clesinger's atelier sale in 1923 (now in the Musée d'Orsay).
