Lot Essay

The present bronze is the final study for the terracotta monument which was placed in the Queen's private chapel at Windsor Castle. The commission was obtained for Dalou by the Queen's daughter, Princess Louise, who was also a sculptor. Dalou never publicly exhibited the monument due to the private nature of the commission.
