Lot Essay

A translucent pink and white glass bottle of rounded shape, similarly carved with stylized bamboo on the narrower sides and slightly concave broader faces acting as integral snuff trays, is illustrated by Robert Hall, Chinese Snuff Bottles II, 1989, Catalogue, fig. 77

Bottles of similar shape with bamboo ribs are known to have been inside painted. For an example by the Yeh family see an article by Hugh M. Moss entitled "The Yeh Family, A Hundred Years of Artistic Endeavour", published in The Snuff Bottle Collector, January, 1973, Catalogue, no. 7, pp. 12-26, fig. 15
