SIGNED ZHOU SHAOYUAN AND WITH CYCLICAL DATE GUIMAO, CORRESPONDING TO 1903

Of rounded rectangular shape, painted on one side with four figures around a pine tree near a small building below an inscription, and on the other with vases and jardinieres of grasses, lingzhi and prunus near mossy Taihe rockwork below a further inscription signed Zi Heng and dedicated to Fu Ting, stopper

Zhou Shaoyuan is presumably the art name of Zi Heng

The painting of archaic vessels around Taihe rockwork was a common one amongst painters of bottles and particularly liked by Zhou Leyuan, regarded as the founder of the Beijing School of artists (1882-1912)
