Of rectangular form, with concave sides, the base, and sides engraved with scrolling foliage enclosing Arab scenes, the hinged cover applied with a border of foliate scrolls enclosing similar scenes and the initials AB, the interior of the cover engraved with a presentation inscription, marked on interior of base, cover and applied scrolls--3 3/8in.(8.5cm.) long

The inscription reads, "This Gold Box is Presented to Andrew Buchan, by the RHYMNEY COMPANY, in testimony of the Estimation in which they held his gratuitous services in Superintending the Farming concerns of the Company 1845."
