Cartouche-shaped, the undulating sides chased with elaborate foliate scrolls and rocaille enclosing dolphins and waterfalls, the hinged cover with a scene of musical lovers amid rocaille and classical ruins enclosed by foliage and scrolls, all on a matted ground, the base engraved with a presentation inscription, marked on interior of base and on cover--2 7/8in.(7.5cm.) long

Lot Essay

The inscription reads, " A Token of Esteem, from the Proprietors of the Royal Fort Estate at Bristol, to Charles James Esq:re of New Inn London, 1792."

Francis Harache entered a mark as a smallworker in 1738 described as "Silversmith att ye blackamoors head St. Gileses". He is known to have been a Huguenot but his relationship to Pierre Harache Senior and Younger is unknown.
