Of rectangular form, with engine-turned base and in-curved sides, applied with chased foliate borders, the hinged cover engraved with a paddle steamer inscriped LIVERPOOL within an applied shaped foliate border, the interior of the cover engraved with a presentation inscription, marked on interior of base and cover--3 1/8in.(8cm.) long

Lot Essay

The inscription reads, Presented to the Captain Fayrer R.N. of the Steam Ship Liverpool, by the Passengers on board during her first Voyage from New York to Liverpool. As a token of their esteem and regard, and acknowledgement for his kind attention to their comforts during the Passage, Dec. MDCCCXXXVIII.
