FIRST EDITION of a greatly expanded translation of the section entitled "Flore Louisianaise", from vol. 3 of Robin's Voyages dans l'Intérieur de la Louisiane (Paris 1807). Rafinesque revises Robin's nomenclature, but retains the classification scheme used by him, that of Jussieu (which "he was ahead of his generation in the United States...in advocating"), while juxtaposing it with his own, "in order to facilitate a comparison of our different labours, and to show at once many of Robin's mistakes" (Introduction, p. 8). The last three leaves contain a list of American botanical works just published or about to be published, and advertisements of Rafinesque's own works.
