Lot Essay

This petite stand with its distinctive dished and scalloped top is closely related to a candlestand in the Collection of Winterthur Museum and illustrated in Montgomery, American Furniture: The Federal Period (New York: Viking Press, 1966), fig. 373. A distinctive feature of this stand is the manner in which the top is secured to the pedestal whereby the upper portion of the pedestal is threaded and screwed into the round-disk cleat of the top.
