Lot Essay

Begun in 1895, the new Library of Congress project in Washington, D.C. brought together nineteen painters, twenty-two sculptors and seven ornamental artists; Dielman was commissioned to design and execute two mosaics for the House of Representatives Reading Room. Law is his original design from which one of the mosaics was made.
