A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD AND MARQUETRY COMMODE

With serpentine violet and white marble top over a conforming bombé case fitted with three shaped drawers inlaid sans traverse with a foliate spray, on cabriole legs with foliate sabots, inscribed F. Linke on corner mount--37¾in. (96cm.) high, 53in. (135cm.) wide, 23½in. (60cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Françoise Linke was born in Austria in 1855 and died in Paris in 1946. He is recorded as having worked independently by 1882 at 170 Fauborg Saint-Antoine, the heart of the Paris furniture trade. After his success was established at the Paris Exposition universelle of 1890, he acquired showrooms in the prestigious place Vendôme. Cf. D.
