London binding of CONTEMPORARY RED TURKEY BLOCKED AND TOOLED IN GOLD to a panel design with centre and corner blocks, flat spine in seven compartments tooled in gold, edges gilt, slits for ties, in the style of John Bateman, the successor of the MacDurnan Gospels Binder, (small wormhole in spine). Provenance: Dr. Richard Farmer (1735-97) with his signature, sold at his sale in May 1798 to; Charles Lynes, with his signature, and that of Henry V. Lynes (dated Sept. 1821); John, 4th Marquess of Bute bookplate.
