The following seven lots contain seven of Reginald B. Birch's original drawings for Frances Hodgson Burnett, Little Lord Fauntleroy (New York, Charles Scribner's Sons 1886). A further six of the original drawings will be offered for sale in Spring 1995 (plus one additional Fauntleroy drawing). These 13 drawings comprise half of the 26 illustrations in the first edition of this classic American children's book.
[BURNETT, FRANCES HODGSON]. REGINALD B. BIRCH (1854-1943). An original drawing for Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886), the title-page vignette showing Cedric asleep in a footman's arms, attended by three maids (New York 1886 edition), with a large opening initial W mounted at top which does not appear in the first book edition. Black ink over pencil. 442 x 286 mm. (17 3/8 x 11 1/4 in.), on Bristol Board, removed from backing board, mat burn at edges from old mount. Signed.
