Small 8vo, original light brown (faded from brown-salmon) vertically ribbed cloth, borders of both covers blocked in blind, ornamental lettering panels gilt-blocked on front cover and spine, g.e., ORIGINAL LIGHT PINK ENDPAPERS, light wear at ends of spine, fore-corners and a small spot on rear outer joint, inner hinges cracked, a few leaves slightly soiled, brown half calf slipcase, FIRST EDITION, WITH THE VERY RARE LIGHT PINK ENDPAPERS (the usual endpapers are light green or yellow), FIRST ISSUE, Second State according to Smith, with the following points: title-page printed in blue and red, "Stave I" as the first chapter heading, text uncorrected; perfect signature letter "C" at foot of p. 17 ("probably indicating the earliest printing of text" -- Smith); the closest interval between blind-stamping at left margin and left extremity of gilt wreath is perfect (corresponding to Todd's first impression, first issue); 2 pages of integral advertisements at end, hand-colored etched frontispeice and 3 hand-colored etched plates by John Leech, 4 text wood engravings by W.J.
