STEVENSON, ROBERT LOUIS. Two autograph letters signed (one in full, the other with initials) to Alexander Black of the Author's Club in New York; both from Vailima, Samoa, 12 July 1893 and n.d. (but with envelope postmarked 6 December 1893). Together 2 pages, oblong 8vo and 12mo, on tan paper, the first with slight remnants of mounting on verso, the second with original stamped envelope addressed by Stevenson and with an initialed one-line note by him on verso.
12 July 1893: "Suffer me to correct you on a point of fact. 'I inclose a slip of paper...and two other pieces upon which...,' you say. But no such matter! And being left in dubitation as to the required size, I postpone the case till further documents can be adduced. In the meanwhile, accept my thanks for your pleasant letter..." [6 December 1893]: "No time for a word, here are the articles required, and a malism [sic] in the disordered mail which comes--and goes--three days too soon..."
