A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED ORMOLU AND MACASSITE-MOUNTED CLOCK GARNITURE
POSSIBLY RUSSIAN, CIRCA 1775
Comprising a mantel clock and a pair of cassolettes, the clock with silvered dial with arabic numerals, the movement with later brocot escapement and pendulum suspension, the skeletonized backplate finely chased with scrolls and flowers and signed Matignon à Paris, within an arched frame surmounted by cupid's bow and quiver of arrows and cooing doves, the case cast with laurel and fruiting swags and shuttering on square fluted feet, the central plaque with the royal cypher of interlaced L's and fleur-de-lys, flanked by tortoiseshell band with leaf-tip borders, each cassolette with reversible lid en flambeau, the body with interlaced circles and laurel leaf swags, the stepped base with alternating vertical bands of ruby cut glass brilliants, macassites and ormolu on square plinth now enclosing ebony panel-the clock 18 1/2in. (47cm.) high, 11 1/2in. (29cm.) wide, 7 1/2in. (18.5cm.) deep, the cassolettes 15 1/2in. (40cm.) high, 5 1/2in. (14cm.) square
