[PENRY, John (1559-1593)]. An exhortation vnto the gouernours, and people of hir Maiesties countrie of Wales, to labour earnestly, to have the preaching of the Gospell planted among them. [East-Moulsey on Thames: Robert Waldegrave], 1588.

Small 8° in 4's (135 x 92mm). Collation: A-H4 I2, last leaf page 65 is a cancel. 19th-century calf, edges gilt. Provenance: Cardiff Castle bookplate.

First published the same year, this is the second issue of the second edition, signed 'John Penri' at end. It was printed at Penry's own press, which he had set up with Waldegrave, a London printer, in order to publish the notorious Puritan Martin Mar-prelate tracts, attacking the bishops and the clergy; for those he was executed for treason in 1593. This pamphlet is dedicated to the Earl of Pembroke and seeks to prove the incompetence of the clergy. STC 19606 (lists 9 copies)
