Small 8vo (142 x 95mm). Collation: A-I8 K10. Woodcut title border, (very skilful early repair to upper margin of title slightly affecting border). Early 19th-century straight-grained blue morocco, edges gilt. Provenance: John, 4th Marquess of Bute bookplate; Cardiff Castle bookplate.

FIRST EDITION. Preface signed W.T. As the book aggressively objected to Henry VIII's project for divorce, it was severely suppressed, and those found distributing it were marched through the streets of London, forced to wear a copy tied round the neck with a sign saying 'I have sinned against the King's laws'. Because of its strident attack on prelacy, it also greatly antagonized Thomas More. STC 24465; Nijhoff & Kronenberg 3995; Cat. Antwerpen, Dissident Drukkerscentrum (1994) no.11.
