Early 16th-century brown leather over bevelled wooden boards, blindstamped with rolls, brass decorative central and corner piece, the central one on the front cover dated 1533, (spine repaired retaining original backstrip, small repairs to covers), leather index tabs, (missing fore-edge clasps). Provenance: Johannes Maijerus Monacensis Cooperator in Ästett 1582, with note of purchase from Wilibald Lodnmair, vicar in Palting; Ihonas Vesenhauser canonicus plebanus cellarius Matticensis, 17th-century inscription; other inscriptions and prices, mostly 17-18th-century, crossed out.
There is some disagreement as to the printer of this volume. GW assigned it to Amerbach at Basel, as did Proctor initially, but BMC, on examining the combination of types, placed it at Freiburg, printed by Kilianus Fischer. Several of Fischer's types are indeed virtually indistinguishable from types used at Basel, and it remains possible that some of the books assigned to him at Freiburg were printed at Basel, where he resided by 1497. Fischer was Freiburg's first printer, and this is the second Bible printed by him there, being a page-by-page reprint of one dated 1491. HC *3047; GW 4270; BMC III, 695 (IB. 14210); Goff B-593; Pellechet 2280; BSB B-471
