Lewis Wyatt was the nephew of the famous James and his assistant until 1806, when he set up on his own and achieved great renown as a 'country-house' architect. In 1818 he succeeded James Wyatt as architect to the Middlesex Hospital. The present report is very critical of the condition of the Abbey, describing the original building materials in detail and the present defects, with many suggestions for improvement.
