This copy was probably intended for presentation to Napoleon. According to the preface, the work was composed at the request of the Chief-Judge and Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Italy as part of the project to establish a new criminal code. It was also published later in 1807, at the request of the King of Bavaria, to help with his new criminal code. (2)
