2° (345 x 250mm). Letterpress title, 42 hand-coloured soft-ground etched plates by Henry Alken. (Most leaves with neat repairs, mostly to margins.) Later red morocco gilt, the covers with curling flower-spray cornerpieces (the upper cover with centrally-placed lettering), the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in two compartments, the others with flower and foliage tools, gilt turn-ins, the previous upper cover and spine bound-in at the back, t.e.g., by Wood of London.

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. A fine selection of plates that were originally issued as four separate series. This edition is relatively rare as a 'fire consumed part of the stock, and the plates were reissued in oblong folio. These latter are inferior. A reprint was issued in 1900.'
