2 volumes, 2° (595 x 470mm). 2pp. subscribers' list. 79 FINE HAND-COLOURED LITHOGRAPHED PLATES (one folding) after J.Wolf, J.Smit and J.G.Keulemans, coloured by J.D.White, 2 uncoloured lithographed plates (on india paper, mounted) of generic characteristics by Smit. (Title and plate list in vol.II with 10mm repaired tear to outer margin, about 11 plates with light spotting, 2 with light thumb-marks to margins, the folding plate with 55mm tear at fold, neatly repaired tear to surface of 'Black-backed Kaleege' plate in vol.II.) Contemporary red half morocco gilt, g.e. (extremities a trifle scuffed).

FIRST EDITION of Elliot's most sumptuous monograph, and 'the equal in every way to any work by Gould' (Fine Bird Books). The plates probably constitute Wolf's masterpiece and put him in 'the same rank as Audubon and Edward Lear as a bird painter' (Fine Bird Books).
