Numerous plates, mostly hand-coloured lithographs, after J.G.Keulemans, J.Wolf, J.Jennens, H.Grönvold and others, by Hanhart, Mintern Brothers and others. Original red cloth, gilt Ibis stamped on upper covers, some original wrappers bound-in (some light soiling to earlier volumes).

A fine run of the official organ of the British Ornithologist's Union, and rightly described as 'THE PREMIER PUBLICATION OF ITS KIND IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE [AND] THE MOST PRACTICAL AND BEST-EDITED ORNITHOLOGICAL PERIODICAL IN ANY LANGUAGE' (McGill/Wood p.396). The editors of this run include P.L. and W.L.Sclater, Alfred Newton, Osbert Salvin, H.Saunders and A.H.Evans. The three index volumes are for 1859-1876, 1877-1894 and 1895-1912, the general subject index is for 1859-1894, the supplements are the first and second 50th-Jubilee supplements (published in 1909 and 1915) and supplementary volumes issued in 1927 and 1930.
