ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS in one volume, folio (315 x 200mm), 241 leaves, including a separate pictorial title for each log, 78 MANUSCRIPT MAPS, 22 plans and drawings, mostly coloured. Original brown morocco, lettered on upper cover.
The logs cover the following voyages: H.M.S. Tyne, from Portsmouth to Sydney (15 Feb. 1887 to 1 May 1888); H.M.S. Nelson, from Sydney to Cooktown exploring Pacific Islands (1 May 1887 to 10 Sept. 1888); H.M.S. Opal, from Cooktown to Auckland (11 Sept. 1888 to 27 April 1889); H.M.S. Orlando, from Garden Island to Tonga and Farm Cove (1 May 1889 to 16 Sept. 1889); H.M.S. Calliope, from New Hebrides to Plymouth (12 Sept. 1889 to 15 May 1891); H.M.S. Duke of Wellington and H.M.S. Volage, from Portsmouth to Barbadoes back to Portsmouth (13 April 1890 to 14 May 1891). Most of the the very finely drawn maps cover Australia, the Pacific Islands and New Zealand, they include plans of Australian harbours, Norfolk Islands, Tonga, New Hebrides, Port Nouméa, Lord Howe Island, 'Si Ambrym' Island burnt Nov. 1888, Singapore, etc. The drawings include a fine watercolour view of Sydney Harbour, as well as many plans of ships and smaller views
