TWO EMBROIDERED SILK RANK BADGES
CHOSON DYNASTY (19TH CENTURY)

The first a square rank badge embroidered with two tigers, clouds and cresting waves in white, black, various tones of purple and green and in yellow on a dark green silk ground, the second, slightly larger and also square, embroidered with two confronted cranes, each holding in its beak a branch of fungus against a background of clouds and above waves, rendered in threads of white, green, orange and purple on a blue silk ground- 7 3/8 x 6 3/4 in. (18.7 x 17.2 cm.) and 8 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. (21.7 x 19 cm.) (2)
