Each with arched rectangular padded back, arms and seat upholstered in closenailed contemporary floral gros and petit point needlework, the frame carved with shells issuing foliage, on cabriole legs joined by later stretchers ending in scroll toes (2)

A closely related pair of fauteuils was in the salon of Forsyth Wickes' house at Starboard House, Newport, Rhode Island (see P. Rathbone, The Forsyth Wickes Collection, 1968, p.8). Another virtually identical fauteuil (lacking stretchers) was sold, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 16-17 March 1956, lot 329.
