A FINE COPY OF AN IMPORTANT SERIES OF EARLY AUSTRALIAN VIEWS. The text states (incorrectly) that "The engravings in this Volume are curious and interesting, as being the first specimen of the graphic art which this infant community has produced." They were in fact preceded by Lewin's Birds and Lepidopterous Insects. According to the text, the images were engraved on plates fashioned from "common sheet copper which is employed for coppering the bottoms of ships." The plates were issued as individual views in Australia, and also as a collection, without text, in London. Fergusson 842; Wantrup 217b (see also pp.285-289).
