Lot Essay

Erlegung des Festbratens was Pechstein's first illustration for Der Sturm. As with many Expressionist prints, very few impressions of this subject seem to have survived. The use of the woodcut within a periodical may also have added to its rarity. Kruger records ten impressions in public collections.
