Lot Essay

Zach (or Zack) was an Austrian sculptor who specialized in creating images of "the dream mistresses of sadomasochistic Berlin, Vienna and Paris between the wars" (Arwas, Art Deco Sculpture, London, 1992, p. 246). Executed mostly in bronze and more rarely in chryselephantine versions, his works were usually cold-painted. He utilized several foundries, including Argentor-Wien and Bergman.
