André Vincent Viellard a painter at Vincennes and Sèvres, active 1752-1790
Probably designed by Jean-Claude Duplessis père, the present pair is an example of the third of the six sizes in which the vase à oreilles was produced by Sèvres between 1754 and 1777. A pair of the first size (32cm.) also dated 1758 and with similar ground colours and gilding enclosing cartouches painted with military encampments is in the Wallace Collection (C252-253). Cf. Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, vol. I, nos. C241-243, C251-253
