Folio, 332 x 225mm. (13 x 8 7/8in.), contemporary blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards, brass clasps, very slight wear to corners, occasional slight marginal soiling.

First Edition in German, gothic type, ornamental woodcut initials, approximately 270 woodcuts by Hans Rudolf Manuel Deutsch, many full-page, one folding, printer's device on title and final page, woodcut on c4 colored.

Provenance: Michael Heinrich von Wagenmann zum Hoff, mining judge ("Rom: Kaiis: Maii: Perkhrichter") in Stainfeldt, a region of Lower Austria, the gift of Augustin Schütperk, chief administrator of mines ("Obrigter Perkhmeister") in Lower Ennz, in Austria, on 10 January 1616, according to an inscription on front free endpage. On the title-page is a pen and ink drawing of the coats-of-arms and mottoes of Wagenmann and his wife, together with a drawing of mining tools, also dated 1616 -- Sir Alexander P.M. Fleming, bookplate. A FINE COPY, especially with such an early mining association.
