Lot Essay

It is unusual to find a bronze figure wearing a robe of this type. For an earlier representation see the gilt-bronze figure of Buddha, dated Song Dynasty, illustrated by Yuzo Suzimuro, Chinese Sculpture, Bronzes, and Jades in Japanese Collections, Honolulu, 1966, pl. 48
