Lot Essay

During the 1880s, the Bush-Holley House in Cos Cob, Connecticut became one of the earliest colonies for artists and writers. The House itself served as a boarding house for Hassam and many other Impressionist artists including John Twachtman and Theodore Robinson.
This painting will be included in Stuart P. Feld's and Kathleen M. Burndise's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Hassam's work.
