Lot Essay

From the 1940s onward Betty Parsons was one of the important dealers in New York who supported and encouraged American artists. She was a painter and sculptor in her own right, having studied with Bourdelle in Paris and later with Archipenko and Zadkine. She had her first solo exhibition in Paris in 1927. The Montclair Art Museum honored her with a retrospective in 1974.
