"I have duly received your letter of the 21st inst. and pray you to present my thanks to the Board of Managers of the American Bible Society, for their obliging invitation, to the Anniversary of the Society next Thursday: and my regret that my engagements will not admit my attendance. The information which you have been pleased to communicate to me of the prosperity to the labours [sic] of the Society during this present year, is highly gratifying, and the prayers of the wise and virtuous will attend to the author of all good, that this prosperity may continue and increase till the blessings of the gospel of Christ shall spread from sea to sea, and from the Rivers to the Ends of the Earth."
