The rectangular molded top with hinged rounded rectangular drop leaves over a pair of convex-fronted drawers and a conforming drawer opening to a deep work well above tapering columnar trestle supports joined by a stretcher, on shaped bases with flattened ball feet and later castors--30 1/4in. high, 36 1/4in. wide, 19in. deep

By family tradition, this table belonged to Jane Appleton Pierce, the wife of President Franklin Pierce. It subsequently descended to Mary R. Pierce of Hillsborough Lower Village, New Hampshire, a great niece of President Pierce.
