In two parts: the upper section with flat rectangular top with cove molded overhanging cornice above two short drawers centering a shell-carved short drawer over four graduated long drawers; the lower section with mid-molding above one long drawer over two short drawers centering a shell-carved short drawer, above a flattened-arch skirt, on four cabriole legs with volute knee brackets and pad feet, brasses appear original (four brasses missing)--74in. high, 40 1/2in. wide, 20in. deep

Lot Essay

This high chest was a wedding gift from Revolutionary soldier Reuben Sanborn to his daughter Betsey Sanborn when she married George Harlow in 1807. The high chest has remained in the family to the present generation.
