white-painted dish dial with Roman chapter ring enclosing inscription "Warrented for Joshua Whitmarsh," the case with rectangular panel depicting a shepherd and sheep over a molded base, on brass paw feet-- 32in. high, 14in. wide, 6 1/2in. deep

Lot Essay

Joshua Whitmarsh, great grandfather of William Wales Whitmarsh, was a private Captain in Samuel Ward's company, of Colonel Solomon Lovell's regiment, in Massachusetts. In 1776, he marched from South Weymouth to Dorchester Heights.
