The present lot relates to Francesco de Mura's destroyed fresco for the Sedile di Porto, Naples. There are two known sketches by De Mura for this commission -- one formerly with Colnaghi and the other in the Pio Monte della Misericordia. As De Mura's method of teaching included the excercise of having his pupils copy his sketches, most of which were left to the Pio Monte, one might conclude that the present lot is by a close follower of De Mura
