Lot Essay

Two other versions of this composition exist. The first, in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg, is accepted as autograph by Craig Felton (see C. Felton, Ribera, 1971, no. A10) and by Alfonso Perez Sanchez and Nicola Spinosa (see A.E. Perez Sanchez and N. Spinosa, L'Opera Completa di Ribera, 1978, no. 29.2). The other is in the Parmeggiani collection, Reggio d'Emilia (see G. Nuno, Ribera, no. 2270).
