MAKER'S MARK OF WILLIAM GALE, JR & CO., NEW YORK, CIRCA 1865

Obong, on four knopped feet, each side with pen depression enclosing a raised oval pedestal, the sides flat-chased with a band of stylized foliage on a matted ground surrounding, on each side, a vacant oval cartouche, within applied beaded bands, with two bayonet-fitted circular wells applied with a band of ovals and beads on a reeded ground within similar beaded bands, the hinged domed covers surmounted by a conical finial, enclosing a similar central standard surmounted by oval plaque engraved on one side with a crest and motto and on the other with stylized monogram WJ, and flanked by openwork scroll supports, marked--10 1/2in. long
