Oval, on four matted acanthus scroll feet, the body repousse and chased with foliate scrolls and flowerheads, enclosing, on one side, an acanthus scroll cartouche engraved The Democrats of Savannah to Franklin Pierce President of the United States from 1853 to 1857 and with script initials FP, the side handles formed of foliate grapevines, the domed cover repousse and chased with similar decoration, enclosing on each side a similar cartouche engraved In grateful Memory of his Faithful Adherence to the Constitution of his Country, with similar foliate grapevine handle issuing from a calyx of grape leaves, marked--length over handles 15 1/2in.
